1. Rechnitz Composes Song for Our Times
How are we to respond to the recent events in Pittsburgh? For that matter, how should we respond at any time when are under attack?
As one of the many times, he expresses his feelings through song, philanthropist and melodist Shlomo Yehuda Rechnitz composed a haunting melody with a powerful message.
Singing the song “Ashreinu” are singers Boruch Levine and Simcha Leiner, accompanied by the Shira Choir. A moving and timely message is displayed on the screen of the video.
2. Nemouel Sings Kol Dodi Nigun
In honor of the current season of Chassidic holidays, Chabad singer Nemouel released his version of the nigun “Kol Dodi” which was composed by the Alter Rebbe, Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, founder of Chabad-Lubavitch.
The deeply moving tones of this melody give expression to the significance of the verse, Chabad.org notes. The heavenly call of the G‑dly voice awakens and summons man’s soul to permit G‑dliness to enter his heart.
In the last phrase of the melody we have the reply of the soul. It is ready to fulfill its mission of the heavenly design to illuminate the world with sanctity through Torah and Mitzvos.
The Frierdiker Rebbe once explained that with the power inherent in this melody the Alter Rebbe could purify and refine a Jewish soul.
3. Anti-Semitism Leads to a Song
Mordchai Rot, a Lubavitcher therapist and author in Israel, who begin singing his composed tunes this past year, released his 4th song.
Titled “I’m Jewish,” the song was inspired by the recent killing of Jewish people in Israel and in Pittsburgh.
He said the thought of not understanding why anti-Semitism still exists led him to the words in the Hagaddah that in every generation there are those who want to destroy the Jews but Hashem protects us.
“I’m a Jew, Hashem is always with me, you won’t succeed in breaking me,” Rot sings in Hebrew. The music clip was filmed and edited by Reuven Chayun.
4. Young Girl’s Tune for Pittsburgh
Hadassa Elkan, 11, composed an instrumental song which she titled “A Soul” in memory of the 11 souls that were murdered in the worst anti-Semitic attack in American history.
“A soul may be taken from us in the world but it still lives on for many more years,” she says and explains that the reason the picture has a Magen David out of matches is “because in a dark time – just one match can light up the whole world.”
“The Magen David necklace is because you should not be afraid to show that you are Jewish and the yartzeit candle is in memory of the 11 people that were killed,” she said.
5. Moshe Silver’s Wedding Track
