Today, the 7th of Shevat, is the Yartzeit of the Rebbe‘s uncle, Rabbi Shalom Shlomo Schneerson, the brother of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson, the Rebbe’s father.
In the year 5685, together with his father-in-law, he immigrated to the Holy Land and settled in Jerusalem, and a year later, 7 Shvat 5686, he passed away and was buried in the Chabad section on Har Hazeisim in Jerusalem.
He left behind an only daughter, Mrs. Zelda Mishkovsky (Schneerson) – known by her name as “Zelda the Poet”, who recited Kaddish for him at his funeral. When Har Hazeisim returned to Jewish rule, his grave was located, and the Rebbe asked Mrs. Zelda to see to the renovation of the tombstone and even asked to participate in the expenses.
Today, a group of bochurim who are students in Toras Emes Yeshiva in Jerusalem visited his gravesite on Har Hazeisim, to recite Mishnayos and Kaddish, organized by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Tzikvashvili.
