It’s hard to miss the new center being built along Jones Bridge Road in the heart of North Fulton, where Alpharetta, Johns Creek and Roswell nearly intersect. The magnificent edifice sits on the heavily travelled street and stands out in its unique beauty and design.
Yet you may have been wondering what exactly is being built there.
On Sunday, March 17, 2019, at 12:00pm, the Jewish community will unveil the brand new and exquisite ‘Rashi’s Campus’ Chabad Jewish Center, named for the late founder of the community, Mrs. Rashi Minkowicz obm, who passed away suddenly in March, 2014, at the young age of 37.
Chabad has been providing Jewish education, worship, and community outreach in the area since 1998 when Rashi and her husband Rabbi Hirshy Minkowicz moved to town to establish a local chapter of Chabad. They joined a network of over 4000 Chabad centers across the globe that seek to promote Jewish pride and continuity through innovative programming, personal connections and direct relationships with Jews of all backgrounds and affiliations.
Chabad of North Fulton serves the communities of Alpharetta, Crabapple, Johns Creek, Milton, Roswell and Duluth.
“For twenty years we focused on the soul of the organization, operating out of modular trailers and makeshift buildings, focusing instead on the day to day services we provide,” said Rabbi Hirshy Minkowicz. “When Rashi passed away the community came together, led by a push from our oldest son Mendel, 14 years old at the time, and decided it was time to build a permanent home for Chabad where her legacy and work could continue for generations to come.”
Through a series of “divinely guided coincidences” as Rabbi Hirshy calls them, they met a local Roswell architect, Arie Kohn, who went on to design and manage every detail of the beautiful and finely detailed facility.
The grand opening ceremony will take place on Sunday, March 17, 2019, at 12:00pm, and will include greetings, ribbon cutting, activities for children, and a lavish lunch. Admission is free and all are welcome to join.
