Brooklyn Council Member Chaim Deutsch is holding a rally at New York City Hall on Tuesday to call for security funding for houses of worship.
“In the wake of attacks on houses of worship in Poway, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Louisiana, and Pittsburgh, many New Yorkers of faith are concerned about security in their own scared spaces,” Council Member Deutsch said.
“It is a frightening time for many religious New Yorkers. Churches, synagogues, and mosques have all been targeted in the last several months,” he said.
Deutsch is asking Mayor Bill de Blasio to include funding in the 2020 City budget for houses of worship to have security apparatus and personnel.
“It is crucial that New Yorkers of all faiths unite together for this important cause, to prove that our voices will not be silenced on this critical issue,” Deutsch said.
The rally will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, May 7th
New York City Hall, 2:00pm.
