The celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Rabbinical Centre of Europe that was scheduled to take place this month is being postponed.
A spokesperson of the center, which unites rabbis from across the continent, told COLlive.com the decision was in response to the global scare of Coronavirus.
The 3-day conference was meant to take place in Paris on the 20th to the 22nd of Adar with hundreds of rabbis from Jewish communities around Europe.
Guests of the conference were to be Israel’s Chief Rabbis Yitzhak Yossef and Dovid Lau, Migdal Haemek Rabbi Yitzchok Dovid Grossman, Bnei Brak Rabbi Aizik Landa and Rabbi Reuven Elbaz, head of the Ohr Hachaim institutions in Israel.
“It was decided today, Sunday, to regrettably announce the postponing of the gathering for another occasion,” the spokesperson said.
CNN reports that France, like many countries around the world, is scrambling to contain the novel coronavirus, which has killed more than 2,900 people and infected over 85,000 worldwide since December.
At least 100 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported in France, including two deaths.
The French government issued an order canceling all public gatherings of more than 5,000 people within confined spaces, CNN reported.
