t is the local rabbinates that provide the supervision for food factories, and Nahariya Chief Rabbi Yeshayahu Meitlis told the Post late Thursday that if the head of the rabbinate himself – Amar – had given his approval to the Nipi casings, how can he do it without getting the approvel from all the chief rabbis

“A passionate internal debate among some of the Chief Rabbinate’s most senior members has the potential to cause a dramatic hike in the price of kosher hotdogs in Israel.” so now we all know the hype in price thnx to the people who think hot dogs r not kosher but it should mke it cheaper not more expansive

October 10, 2010 10:19 am

should have spoken out earlier its ashame that he seems scared to do so

why
October 10, 2010 9:25 am

Revach and Amar have lashed out against Eliyahu on radio broadcasts over the past few days, rebutting his claims primarily from a halachic point of view.

kf london
October 9, 2010 3:31 pm

a few months ago kf of london started, for the first time ever, producing skins that come from slaughtered kosher animals
all poskim in our generation agreed that the skin can come from other animals, but no, under great cost, it has been acheieved with kosher animals

collagen products
October 8, 2010 4:11 pm

the casings from germany most likely countain swine (it’s core ingredient is swine skin which is cheap and plentiful)

the crazy thing about this story is that the jerusalem badatz who has always refused any use of collagen/gelatin in it’s products even when made with kosher ingredients (but in special runs at non certified plants) certified a kosher plant in shanghai which does a full line of collagen products based on fish scales, the entire plant is strictly mehadrin.

so really if the chief rabbinate had the will power it could impose a commercially viable alternative to the producers…

hello wolfs
October 8, 2010 4:05 pm

Is that one of the twins? Or its the younger one, I think he is working for the rebbes camp in that picture,

Payton Place comes to hotdogs
October 8, 2010 3:36 pm

Lubs eat only mehadrin (hopefully) and we’ve been paying higher prices for meat because of it.
