Rabbi Zalman Notik, renowned Mashpia in Jerusalem, Israel who influenced many during his lifetime, passed away on Sunday, 7 Cheshvan, 5781.
He was 52.
Rabbi Notik had been battling leukemia, and about two weeks ago he was hospitalized due to a worsening of his condition. Today he tragically passed away at the young age of 52.
Even during Rabbi Notik’s illness, the smile never left his face, and he constantly encouraged those around him.
Rabbi Zalman Nissan Pinchas Notik was born in 1969 and was the head Mashpia at the Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim in Rishon Lezion, Israel. He gave Shiurim and lectures in Chabad houses, to Chasidim and mekuravim, and has influenced many people over the years.
He was known for his clear and concise explanations, even in the deepest concepts of Chassidus, and his kind demeanor to all he met. He was the example of a Chossid to all those around him, loved and admired by all who met and knew him.
He was born to his father, Rabbi Yaakov Notik, and his mother, Chana, on the 20th of Tevet, 1969, in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, which was then part of the Soviet Union.
When he was two years old, his parents immigrated to Israel, and in his youth he studied at the Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim in Lod, where the Mashpiim instilled in him a deep Hiskashrus to the Rebbe.
He then went on to Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim in Kiryat Gat with Rabbi Zusha Alperovich, from whom he received the skill of learning Chassidus in great depth.
In 5749 he traveled with his friends to 770 for the ‘Kevutzah’ year. In 5750 he served as a Shliach in Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim in Kfar Chabad.
After his marriage in 5751 to Nechama, daughter of Rabbi Meir Freiman, at the Rebbe’s instruction, he began to serve as a Mashpia in Yeshivas Toras Emes in Jerusalem.
When the Yeshiva closed for a year, he served in Merkaz Gutnick as a teacher for Russian speaking students. When the yeshiva reopened in Elul 5753, he returned to serve as a Mashpia in the yeshiva.
At the end of 5771, he moved to serve as a Mashpia at Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim in Rishon Lezion. In 5779, after the passing of Mashipa Rabbi Chaim Levi Yitzhok Ginsburg, he was appointed as the main Mashpia at the Yeshiva in Rishon Lezion.
In addition to his work in the field of education, he has also been involved in quietly helping many people, and has worked extensively for the welfare of the community, as well as advising families on a variety of issues.
He is survived by his wife, Nechama and children, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Notik – Kiryat Gat, Rabbi Baruch Notik – Beitar Illit, Rabbi Shmuel Notik – Afula, Rabbi Meir Notik – Tel Zion, and his daughters: Skolnik – Haifa, Weiner – Beit Shemesh.
The levaya will take place today, Sunday departing from the Shamgar Funeral Home in Jerusalem at 3:30 PM, and will pass by the Torat Emet yeshiva, with burial on Har Hazeisim.

He had a very special connection to all the English/Yiddish speaking Bochurim from chutz laaretz. Such a Chasidishe Yid. This is so sad.

Playlist of some of rabbi Notik’s shiurim.
Rabbi Notik loved to sing the niggun צי אזוי. I think the niggun also sums up his attitude and approach in life. As a Bochur I did not Realize or appreciate the niggun as much, but in difficult times later in life I would come to appreciate it more and more, and realized how rabbi notik was empowering us with this niggun. In toras emes, I came back to zal sometimes in middle of the night 2, 3 or 4 in the morning. Was never a sole there. One time no one was there except for rabbi notik. I think… Read more »
