Rabbi Yosef Maatuf, an educator who served as the principal of the main Chabad school for girls in Nachlas Har Chabad, Israel, passed away on Tuesday, 16 Elul, 5781.
Rabbi Maatuf served as a principal for many years, influencing thousands of students in the ways of Torah and Chassidus, who have set up Chasidic homes and many of whom serve in leadership positions around the world as Shluchos and educators.
He was known as one who exemplified a Chosid and yiras Shomayim, as an educator who set a true living example.
In 2011, he was awarded the title “Beloved Religious Educator”, for his many years of dedication to the education of Israeli girls. He was described by the judges as an educator who “nurtured the relationship with the students’ parents, and was very involved in helping the absorption of immigrant students, as well as in assisting students from distressed families.”
In recent months he had suffered a stroke, which was very difficult for him, and a blow to his entire community. He recently became infected with coronavirus, and sadly, he passed away.
He is survived by his children, Mrs. Chana Chalili – Kiryat Malachi, Israel, Shalom Menachem Maatuf – Crown Heights, Schneur Zalman Maatuf – Kiryat Malachi, Israel, Levi Yitzchok Maatuf – Kiryat Malachi, Israel, Shmuel Maatuf – Yishuv Adam, Israel, Mrs. Rochel Bracha Peer – Kiryat Malachi, Israel, Mrs. Nechama Dina Jerufi – Kiryat Malachi, Israel, Chaim Avraham Maatuf – Kiryat Malachi, Israel, Yisroel Elazar Maatuf – Kiryat Malachi, Israel, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
