Rabbi Shalom Povarsky, a talmid chochom and prominent Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Kol Torah in Jerusalem for decades, passed away on Shabbos, 11 Teves, 5781.
He was 85 and passed away after being infected with coronavirus.
Rabbi Povarsky was born in Europe, the youngest of three sons of the late Rosh Yeshivah HaGaon HaRav Yehoshua Dovid Povarsky obm, Rosh Yeshivas Ponevezh and author of the Sefer Yeshuas Dovid.
When he was four he moved with his parents to Israel. He studied at the Ponovezh Yeshiva, where he was recognized as an outstanding lamdan who excelled in his studies.
After he was married, he served for years as a Rosh Mesivta in Yeshivas Be’er Yaakov before becoming one of the Roshei Yeshivah of Ponevezh. His brother, Rabbi Baruch Dov Povarsky, serves as the Rosh Yeshiva at the Ponovezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak.
Rabbi Povarsky had a strong connection to the Lubavitcher Rebbe for many years. During his visits to New York, he would daven in the Main Shul at 770 Eastern Parkway.
His son Dov Povarsky lives in Crown Heights.
The levaya took place in Jerusalem.

He was our regal grandfather and dignified Rosh Yeshiva . Saba always had a open book and his conversations consistently revolving around Torah . All of us around him were lifted to a higher standard just by his presence.
He will be missed and remembered by all of us.
