Rabbi Sholom Ber Schneerson, a relative of the Lubavitcher Rebbe who led the synagogue Bais Schneur in Flatbush, New York, passed away on Wednesday night, 4 Tishrei, 5777.
He was 84.
A second cousin of the Rebbe, R’ Sholom Ber remembered how Rebbetzin Chana Schneerson, the Rebbe’s mother, stayed in his parents’ home in Paris, France, after the Second World War.
His ancestry is the son of Rabbi Schneur Zalman Schneerson, son of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, son of Rabbi Levi Yitzchok Schneerson, son of Rabbi Baruch Sholom Schneerson, the eldest son of the Tzemach Tzedek, third Lubavitcher Rebbe.
He would lead the singing of the Chabad niggunim during the annual “Tzetzoim” gathering of descendants of the Alter Rebbe, author of Tanya, founder of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement.
R’ Sholom Ber had a shul in his home and worked as a respected schochet in the New York area for many years.
He is survived by his wife Sheina, their children R’ Yossi Schneerson – Los Angeles, R’ Mendel Schneerson – Crown Heights, Mrs. Chaya Herzog – Crown Heights; grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister Mrs. Hadassa Carlebach of Crown Heights.
The levaya will be held on Thursday at 12:00 pm from Shomrei Hadas Chapels and will be passing by 770 Eastern Parkway at 12:45 pm.
The family will be sitting Shiva at 1126 E. 12th St, Brooklyn until Friday 3:00 pm. After Shabbos, Shiva will be at 1378 President St.
