Rabbi Moshe Dov Ginzburg, Director of the central Chabad center in the Israeli city of Haifa, passed away on Motzoei Shabbos, the eve of 29 Nissan 5785.
He was 61.
He was born on 29 Tishrei 5724 (October 17, 1963) in Bnei Brak, to his father Rabbi Shalom Yehuda Leib Ginzburg and his mother Mrs. Golda.
As a young man, he studied at the Tomchei Temimim Yeshiva in Kfar Chabad, and in 1983 (5743) he traveled to study at the central Tomchei Temimim Yeshiva at 770 Eastern Parkway in New York, as part of the Kvutza program.
After his marriage to his wife, Mrs. Chana, daughter of Rabbi Aharon Mordechai Silberstrom of Jerusalem, he was asked by Rabbi Yehuda Leib Schildkraut to come serve as the Rebbe’s Shliach in Haifa. After receiving the Rebbe’s agreement and blessing, he arrived in the city in Cheshvan 5748 (1987).
He began his activities by founding a Chabad House in the Hadar neighborhood. After six months, he moved to the Kiryat Shprinzak neighborhood, where he served as rabbi of the “Heichal Chana” Shul, while continuing to serve as the Shliach for the Hadar neighborhood and as director of Chabad activities throughout Haifa.
Over the years, he brought more than 25 additional Shluchim to Haifa, serving in different neighborhoods across the city.
In 2002 (5762), he established a soup kitchen (Beit Hatavshil) in the city, where dozens of needy individuals are fed daily.
In 2010 (5770), he received an honorary Shield of Honor award from Haifa’s mayor, Mr. Yona Yahav.
He is survived by his wife, and their children Rabbi Sholom Yehuda Leib Ginzburg – Haifa; Rabbi Menachem Mendel Ginzburg – Nof HaGalil; Mrs. Chaya Mushka Springer – Tzfas; Mrs. Batsheva Bluma Lifsh – Ramat Aviv Gimmel; Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Ginzburg – Geva Carmel; Rabbi Shmuel Ginzburg – Ma’ayan Baruch; Rabbi Yosef Simcha Ginzburg – Rosh Pina; Rabbi Tuvia Ginzburg – Petach Tikva; Mrs. Devorah Leah Meckler – Beit Shemesh; Mrs. Rivka Fradel Gurevitch – Ramat Aviv; Shterna Sarah Ginzburg, Shneur Zalman Ginzburg and Menucha Rachel Ginzburg; grandchildren.
He also leaves behind his brother, Rabbi Yosef Simcha Ginzburg of Omer, and his sister, Mrs. Ruth Hendel of Haifa.
His brother, Rabbi Chaim Levi Yitzchak Ginzburg, of blessed memory, passed away in 2019 (5779).
