Determined to keep connected with the Enfield & Winchmore Hill kehilla in suburban London, Rabbi Yitzchok and Tzipporah Sufrin set out before Yomtov to visit as many members of the kehilla as possible during a marathon almost 4-hour tour of their homes to bring chizuk and Yomtov simcha.
Maintaining social distancing, a colorful banner was displayed wishing everyone: “Chag Sameach, have a wonderful Yomtov.”
A gift of a box of cheesecake provided by the Chief Rabbi’s Centre for Community Excellence together with a pamphlet on Shavous personalities: Rus, the Baal Shem Tov and a message from the Lubavitcher Rebbe were warmly received.
The caring Shavuos initiative by Rabbi and Rebbetzin Sufrin was met with smiles and laughter at each stop of the journey. The lively sounds of Hevenu shalom aleichem played in the street at one drive pass greeted the pre-Yomtov visitors. Non-Jewish neighbors came out their homes and commented favorably on the sight of the boxes of cheesecake being handed out, which no doubt caused a Kiddush Hashem.
Rabbi Sufrin took the opportunity to welcome a recently arrived Chassidic family that have moved to Bush Hill Park, Enfield, one of a number of families from Stamford Hill that have moved into the leafy area by delivering a Yomtov gift on behalf of the Enfield kehilla, to the head of the household.
I remember the English group with Air Lingus attaché cases arriving for shavous giving our community. OUR first yom tov lift , before other groups started coming we really appreciated the english group including Rabbi. Yitzchok Suffern and the Jaffies
