R’ Dave Berenson, from the first mekuravim of Chabad in California and a survivor of the infamous Westwood Chabad fire in 1980, passed away.
A member of Chabad of California, R’ Berenson took credit for the naming of Chabad Centers as “Chabad House.”
He was beloved by many of the original California Chabad Shluchim’s children (today shluchim themselves) for driving them to school for many years.
He is survived by his wife Chaya (Eileen) and daughter Bracha.
The Levaya will take place Friday at 11 am at Mt. Olives in City of Commerce.

It is wonderful to read all the wonderful things about David. I loved the pictures. He’s my best friend. It is so nice to know how many lives he touched.
Thank You,

May we all be inspired by the life he lived and help someone
It can be done, Dave showed us time and again
So sad. Dave was the greatest. A true Bal Shem Tov Yid.

Very nice of readers to post a message, but if the family reads this they don’t know who you are, so it weakens the message.
I didn’t know the deceased.
Very sorry to hear…painful and difficult.

Dave was a lively and happy man. I have very happy and warm memories of him taking me to school as a child. He enjoyed making every ride an adventure. Between his popcorn, heart lollipops, rides on the bumps 🙂 it was always exciting to go to school! He will be truly missed!
May Hashem comfort his wife Chaya and daughter Bracha
David’s motto was ENJOY! David was a real Tzaddik, do so many acts of kindness for the homeless, the drug addicts, etc. It was an honor to have known David, who is now in the BEST place in the world to come.
the heart lollypops.
never met you but you sound like an amazing person
ENJOY!!!!!!!
Some of my warmest memories as a child are of Dave driving us to school in his famous brown van that didn’t need a key in the ignition to drive! He would drive us over to La Brea Kosher for candy after a long day of school and was always kind and loving to us. I had the great honor and blessing to host his daughter in my home for a meal and may she continue his legacy of spreading warmth and love among all Jewish people.

Hamokom yinachem…thank you R’ Dave for all that you have done!
He was such a big teddy bear. I remember going as a little girl to his wedding at Chabad House in SM. He was a very sweet, friendly man and will be missed.
THERE IS NO ONE LIKE HIM!!! His fans down under 🙂
R’ Dave was a very special man. He really was a pure and sincere person with a beautiful neshama. He only wished well on others and judged everyone favorably. There is so much to be learned from Dave Barinson. I am sure that he was greeted warmly in Shamayim by the Rebbe and Rabbi Levitansky zt”l. May we be reunited with all of them with Moshiach now!
