Quebec Minister of International Relations Mr. Pierre Arcand, who is currently on a mission to Russia, visited the headquarters of Federation of Jewish communities of the former Soviet Union.
He was accompanied by François Turenne, his Deputy Minister, Gilles Breton, Deputy Head of mission, Embassy of Canada in Russia and Rabbi Mendel Marasow, Executive Director of Beth Rivkah Academy in Montreal, who was in Moscow at that time as well.
Rabbi Berel Lazar, Chief Rabbi of Russia, hosted the meeting.
A wide range of topics were discussed, from battling anti-Semitism and extremism, to the global economy and the relationship of governments and religion.
“Quebec and Russia are forging new alliances, and the Jewish community in Russia is very significant to these new partnerships with Québec,” said Minister Arcand.
Rabbi Berel Lazar presented the Minister with a Chanukah Menorah, symbolizing growth, openness and religious freedom, and the commitment to work together for a brighter future.
