NYPD is in pursuit of a black male who is responsible for a carjacking at gunpoint Sunday in the heart of the Chassidic Jewish area in the Crown Heights neighborhood.
At approximately 9:15am Sunday, February 13, 2011, a Jewish resident returning from visiting his mother was accosted by a black male who demanded his grey 2010 Toyota Camry.
When the Lubavitcher was parking his car in front of the vacant lot on Crown St. between Albany and Troy Avenues, the thief pulled out a silver handgun and demanded the victim’s wallet and car keys.
The thief, described as 6 feet tall and at the age of 19 or 20, forced his way into the car and began to beat the victim over the head with the gun, forcing him out and driving away.
A good samaritan who witnessed the bloodied victim heading home immediately called the Shmira patrol who also alerted 911 and Hatzalah.
Patrol members immediately began canvassing the area in search of the perpetrator and the stolen car as well as assisting the police in gathering witnesses and obtaining surveillance video.
Hatzalah’s volunteers treated the victim, a man in his sixties, for multiple lacerations and transported him to the hospital.
As of the writing of this article, the victim is still in the New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn and the perpetrator is still at large.
“We are actively searching and investigating all leads,” a police source told COLlive.com. “But let me point out that the 71st Precinct has not had a carjacking in a while.”

There’s a 60% chance the criminal will be out of jail in a few years to commit the same or worse crimes.

Post more info about the thief so the community can help catch him.
I heard someone talking about getting a grant from state or federal, to help people get cameras at an affordable prices. We really need it. Machines can do more than the police sometimes.
