Israeli police officers showed up on Tuesday morning at Beis Menachem, the largest shul in the central Israeli village of Kfar Chabad to disassemble a crowd.
Gabboim of the shul tried without success to enforce the strict regulation of Israel’s Health Ministry to limit all social interaction and ban gatherings of over 10 people.
“People from all types come to this shul from outside of Kfar Chabad because it is seen as an area shul, and we had no way of dealing with them,” says the gabbai R’ Binyomin Rivkin.
“Despite the repeated instructions to keep the rules of the Health Ministry and not to daven in large groups, they didn’t listen,” he said. “We had no choice but to close the main sanctuary altogether until further notice.”
Mosheleh Guttman, who works for the local Vaad Kfar Chabad, explained that they contacted the police to enforce the restriction because “the situation is worse than what some think.”
For now, minyanim at Beis Menachem will be held on the wide front terrace and in the surrounding gardens.
