Clowns, Stilt walkers, floats, Marching bands and Men Women and Children from all over Sydney marched through the streets of Bondi with the likes of MP Malcolm Turnbull, MP Gabriele Upton, David Clarke MLC and MP Bruce Notley- Smith in the Lag Baomer Parade on Sunday, May 22. Similar parades took place around the world with many thousands of people participating.
The Lag Baomer Parade and Carnival was organised by Chabad Youth
NSW an initiative of the Yeshiva Centre – Chabad NSW HQ in conjunction with many major communal organizations, Schools, youth movements and Synagogues that took to the streets in a show of unity and cooperation.
The entire Jewish community, young and old, joined together to celebrate their common bond with Jewish people around the world. Schools and communal organizations were invited to design floats and banners around Jewish traditional themes, emphasizing our rich heritage, traditions and link to the land of Israel.
As part of the event, there was a Banner Competition through all of the Jewish Day schools in Sydney where children were to design and create a banner for the parade, bring it along and hand it in to be judged by our panel of Judges.
The Lag Baomer Parade has over the years become a public proclamation of religious freedom and tolerance, of the right to freely observe and practice religion.
The program rally began at Bondi Park, Campbell Parade at 10:00 am and was addressed by Rabbi Pinchus Feldman OAM Dean and Spiritual Leader of the Yeshiva Centre and Government Representatives.
The Parade marched along Campbell Parade, Hall Street, Glenyar Avenue, Warners Avenue to Barracluff Park (cnr Old South Head Rd and Warners Ave. North Bondi), where there was the carnival took place till 3pm.
