Another opportunity for the liberals in Manhattan to make life more challenging and uncomfortable for those of us with families in the outer boroughs.
The streets don’t belong exclusively to cars. I live in Crown Heights and have been waiting for this for years. The closest Citi bike station was at Franklin Ave until these new ones opened. These stations are good for the שכונה . They will encourage more biking (good exercise) and make getting around crown heights a little easier, especially for those without cars and at times when driving makes sense
Do it on the island!
They can be installed on the island- a win-win.
The way the parkway is administered is that the islands are managed by the NYC Parks administration and the street is by the DOT.
The DOT is the one that administers citi bike.
Also the parkway is a National Scenic Landmark which would make it more complicated to make citi bike the islands.
There goes a lot of parking space 😣
These are still parking spaces but instead of parking spaces for three cars, now a few dozen bikes can park.
…which can hold twenty or so people between them. Did you forget that part, or are you eliding it deliberately?
Theoretically. But the majority of vehicles in crown heights often drive with 1-2 occupants. Also they’re huge.
Oh no! What about the publicly owned land that people want to park their private vehicles on??
Says someone who doesn’t own a car!
Says someone who doesn’t own a parking spot.
If I don’t have space to keep my private belongings, can I just take up part of the public thoroughfare? Think of any example that’s not a car or a Rubashkin tent and tell me why it makes sense
Where are our “machers” who take pics with the politicians every week when we need them to protect our parking? Don’t fool yourself, this is all geared to make having a car difficult.
Agreed….. they don’t want anybody driving cars anymore
Wait… do you mean it like it’s a bad thing?
Maybe also paying attention to those of us who dont drive?
It may be harder to park a car but it’s not easier to find a bike…
I have been waiting for this for a while for citibike to spread further Westward into Brooklyn. Hope they add a couple more stations in crown heights. Lots of people are gonna benefit from this. The few vocal people complaining about losing five parking spaces can go fly a kite. Seriously, flying a kite is fun and it may put them in a good mood and perhaps they will stop complaining for a minute. Never mind, how silly of me. These people always find something to complain about. 🙂
have you ever owned a car in CH and spent a literal 3 hours looking for one damn parking spot?
Sounds like maybe you shouldn’t own a car if it’s so onerous. Luckily, there’s now a convenient citi bike station right on eastern parkway. It’s healthy for the body, mind, and spirit, and it’s inexpensive. Three hours of biking is a joy! Give it a shot!
And when you want to take your family out somewhere? Or when you need to haul a week’s worth of groceries? Just because you’re a freewheeling single doesn’t mean that the rest of us are.
Says the person freewheeling parking spots on public property…
I have children and no car. We get our groceries delivered. Our choices for leaving are maybe more limited but we somehow make do
I’m not sure why your groceries or Sunday outings are my burden?! Sounds awfully socialist, to be honest, to ask the public to bear the burden of your parking space. I understand that this is New York and lefties run the place, but I think we should draw the line at the public subsidizing your car.
I always hated that you had to walk to Bedford to rent a bike now it’s right here! I hope the kids in the neighborhood will use them all the time!!
All it will do is invite more white yuppies to raise rents, and took away valuable parking spots. I look forward to the bochurim vandalizing it
Let us know how much you’re willing to pay we can take care of it for you
Oh don’t you worry, the yellow school buses will take care of it when they make the turn !!!!!!
Ah, yes, the Jewish owners of housing (private homes and buildings) have no agency – it’s purely the fault of the white people moving in. Surely the answer to this is encouraging vandalism. 👶🏻🧠
There’s a reason they have been on every street in new york besides this one till now, it’s a white person magnet, no one here rides them, because the boys have their own bikes and the women can’t ride, because it’s not tznius. this also takes up 8 parking spots which now makes the chance of me finding a spot in front of my house across the street 8 times less likely to happen, being that 8 more cars are looking for a spot near THEIR home.
What in the me’aa shearim are you talking about? Women and girls can also benifit from the bikes if they so wish.
Period.
You absolutely love to see it
Anyone who wants a bike can get one or has one
Who is renting these extremely expensive citi bikes anyways
Plus right across the street from 770
This is crazy
Move it a block or two away
It’s not parking for people with bikes- it’s stealing parking from cars and just making more money off ppl and ripping them off
If you don’t have a car and ride a bike or want more ppl to ride bikes then open a cheap bike rental store front
This isn’t helping anyone and just annoying
Drivers, watch out for these unprotected riders.
Drivers ought to be watching out for everything outside their cars at all times. Odom muod l’olam, and cars are very dangerous to anyone outside them.
Saw it this afternoon on Maple St., just west of Brooklyn Ave.
Yet another object to mis-handle in Cr. Hts.!
Why don’t they put them inside the subway station and make an elevator to transporr them?
25 bikes is much more useful than a few parking spots. This is fantastic news for the community.
Theres not need to have those literally every zipcode, not even mention that this is the most needed place to park in whole ch!
Go to kingston around the park and you find more if you like those ITS 5 BLOCKS!
Seems like it’s faster to walk. And healthier. Try it.
Now go walk 5 blocks and get all the overpriced bikes you desire!!
Leave the parkway for what was intended: A place for Parking cars! Do you notice all those building with no parking right?
Eastern parkway was constructed 150 years ago. Cars weren’t invented until 130 years ago. I’m glad the parkway’s designers intentions storage or non-existent means of transport. They were visionaries
I was talking about the lanes
That’s why so many people have moved to East Flatbush
