Dressing babies is Tammy Bodner’s happy place. As a child, she would run to the baby clothing section and style outfits when she was out shopping with her mother. Years later, she’s doing exactly that, except she’s doing it for your baby, too.
Bodner’s company Piccolo Child carries layettes, bonnets, rompers, and accessories for newborns through two years olds. “I find that baby clothing tends to be extremely pricey,” says the entrepreneur. “A lot of women want to dress their babies really nicely but can’t afford those prices.”
To keep prices low, Bodner finds affordable brands so that every baby can be dressed in adorable style. Among those brands are Ely’s & Co, Bee and Dee, and Mon Cheri NY. And if you live in Crown Heights or the Five Towns, you’ll receive free delivery, too.
Bodner, a former school psychologist, knows what it means to pay attention to detail. In fact, she is a perfectionist when it comes to her job. “I look at every item and detail,” she says. “I feel the fabric to make sure it feels very soft.”
Parents love the enthusiasm that Bodner has for dressing their babies well. Mothers thank her for being accommodating; she does free drop-offs and pick-ups for exchange in-person.
When one mom-to-be was looking for a baby wardrobe but didn’t know her baby’s gender, Bodner dropped off a slew of gender-neutral options. The woman thanked her but then remembered that her babies tended to be on the large side. “Do you have these items in size six months?” she wanted to know. Bodner had exactly what the mom needed, and exchanged the sizes for her the next day.
Another woman who was pregnant contacted Bodner, asking for a full layette set ready for her baby’s birth. The problem was that she didn’t know the gender of the baby. So Bodner booked an appointment, and together, the clothier and mom-to-be chose two full layettes.
A few months later, Bodner received happy news. The woman had given birth to a healthy baby girl. Carefully, she wrapped up the girl’s layette which the mom had chosen, and sent it out to her. The mom called and thanked Bodner for the fresh, beautiful clothing sets, which were ready for her baby immediately. “It made me so happy,” Bodner recalls. Months later, the mom booked another appointment to buy the next set for her growing baby.
