Over 100 women gathered in Crown Heights recently to experience Rivka Fishman’s refreshing take on bullying.
Mrs. Fishman, the author of “Sara the Bucket Filler” and educator in Houston, Texas told the audience, “it’s hypocritical to bully a bully. So what can we do?”
Throughout the evening full of laughter and engaging role play, Mrs. Fishman taught her steps for bully-proofing and how parents and teachers can empower children to recognize that bullies are simply looking for ways to empty other buckets.
“Children who are hurting, hurt,” Mrs. Fishman explained.
Teaching children about the perspective of the bully can empower them by reminding them to not give credence to the bullies’ claims and not allow them to empty their buckets.
An extensive question and answer session followed the program where Mrs. Fishman provided tips for real life situations of all kinds. The evening ended with author book signing and discussion.
Agreed
Plus
kids should be taught:
1. To know when they are bullied
2. Who to talk to about it
As someone who works in schools I feel it is imperative to get to the basics first. Teach empathy skills. Work on a middah a month. We dont put enough emphasis on middos
Teachers and principals have to learn about bulling tips
Bullying is very serious. Especially in publicity and Jewish schools. The bullies crush other childrem. The teachers do nothing.
