A power outage is slowing down traffic and affecting businesses on Crown Heights’ main thoroughfare.
Power suddenly went out on Kingston Avenue and the blocks near it between Empire and Montgomery Street, on Wednesday afternoon without warning, surprising residents and business owners.
Passersby reported that good Samaritans are helping to direct traffic and assisting people with crossing the streets until power is restored.
Stores such as Kol Tuv, Sushi Spot and Sunshine Pharmacy remain open but are not receiving online orders and are having delays processing payments. Homes on the streets nearby reported they were without power as well.
One store owner told COLlive, “we have no idea what caused this and we have not been informed of when power might be restored.”
NYPD later notified that the outage was due to an explosion of a Con Edison transformer, creating a manhole fire.
“As a result, several blocks around Empire Blvd and Kingston Avenue have no electricity. Con Edison is on scene with NYPD trying to restore power,” they said.

I dont understand how so many people where affected by this and nobody thought of calling to find out what happened. You are all very lucky that i happened to pass by and see smoke coming out of a bunch of manhole covers. People have to be more vigilant when it comes to safety.
A manhole exploded causing the outage. They claim it will be restored by 7pm
