As my siblings and I all live out of New York, the difficult and painful realization set in. Our mother, living alone in Crown Heights, would be quarantined during this challenging time, and alone for Pesach for the first time.
After an emergency conference call with my siblings, we realized that we needed to turn to some friends and organizations in Crown Heights that have stepped up to the plate with offers to help. Unsure what the experience would be like, I left a message on the Gedaliah Society Emergency Corona Hotline.
To my pleasant surprise, within minutes, a woman named Irit returned my call to see what I needed. A few moments later, a volunteer, on his way to a kosher store, called my mother to inform her that he is on the way to pick up her needs.
It was just a short while after, that a young man named Mendy, rang her doorbell and delivered it to the exact location she requested that her items be placed.
Thank you Crown Heights organizations and all your dedicated volunteers for caring above and beyond at this time.
