In an effort to connect with their rich Jewish heritage and history, a group of young women from The Jean Schottenstein Oryah Institute embarked on a transformative journey from Israel to Poland. This educational and emotionally charged trip provided the students with a deeper understanding of their roots, as they explored significant sites related to Jewish history and the Holocaust.
The group began their journey in Warsaw, where they visited the Warsaw Jewish Cemetery and Ghetto. They traveled through the cities of Wolbrom and Krakow gaining insight into the vibrant pre-war Jewish life and the devastating impact of the Holocaust. Visiting these places, especially during the current times we are in, gave a deeper understanding of the resilience of the Jewish people in the face of adversity.
One of the most profound experiences of the trip was the visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau, the notorious concentration and extermination camps. Walking through the haunting remains of the camp, the participants confronted the stark reality of the Holocaust. This experience served as a powerful reminder of the strength we have as a Jewish nation & our role in Jewish continuity.
“As a Jewish girl, you’re constantly learning and hearing stories about the Holocaust, but it wasn’t until our trip to Poland, where I had the opportunity to truly attempt to even understand what really happened, I gained a new appreciation, and immense gratitude for all the privileges I have been given in my own life. It made me realize to never take advantage of even the smallest thing that I have the ability to call mine.” – Rosie Wudowsky
The Oryah Seminary Jewish Heritage Trip to Poland was more than just a journey through historical sites; it was a profound exploration of identity, resilience, and the enduring strength of the Jewish people. The students returned to Israel with a heightened sense of Jewish pride, a deeper connection to their heritage, and a commitment to being the next Jewish leaders!
“Generations erased, generations gained. When will it be enough. Living, breathing, living. We are alive! Our souls screaming, yearning to be more. We just want to live in peace. Praying for better days. Am Yisrael Chai.” -Hadas Goodman
“This trip made our history come alive which is so important in order for us to secure a better future for generations!” -Chaya Katzen
After seeing the impact of this Jewish Heritage trip, JSOI will be introducing annual alumni trips throughout the world. Mark your calendars this summer and get ready for unforgettable experiences of connection, exploration, and inspiration in the heart of Prague!

My daughter is having the most incredible year in Oryah seminary . This trip was beyond special – it made a tremendous impact on these girls . What a privilege to be able to have this trip organized for them . Especially during these hard times we are experiencing collectively- these girls were able to see what can and would happen if the world doesn’t stand up to Antisemitism . This trip will stay with them forever – Thank you to all involve in making this trip happen.
