After reaching a milestone 40,000 fans on Facebook, Chabad.org, the world’s most comprehansive Jewish-content website, has launched an online give-away contest of two free tickets to Israel and other prizes as a sign of appreciation to its fans, and to attract readers and viewers to the wisdom, beauty and joy of Judaism throughout the scope of modern media.
“‘Likes’ alone don’t tell the full story,” said Rabbi Zevi Steinhauser, who is leading Chabad.org’s social media team.
“With a focus on inspirational and meaningful posts, we are engaging tens of thousands more as the 40,000 followers act as ambassadors sharing posts about all-things Jewish with their friends.”
The current competition also includes the opportunity, when they pass the contest along to others via Facebook sharing, to win an iPad mini (pre-loaded with apps from Jewish.TV and other Chabad.org features), as well as Jewish works of art by noted artist Michoel Muchnik.
Chabad.org’s Facebook page has long been a destination for tens of thousands of users, highlighting the most up-to-date content on the web site, and is a forum for lively discussions among its fans.
Recent postings include links to “Passover Unwrapped,” Chabad.org’s guide to information and inspiration about the upcoming holiday; a widely discussed article on “Does Money Change Everything?”; “Daily Doses of Jewish Wisdom”; and an ongoing flow of extraordinary art from some of today’s leading contemporary Jewish artists.
“Chabad has always been on the cutting edge of technology with the goal of bringing Judaism to the widest possible audiences,” says Steinhauser.
“The positive and proactive use of all social media— whether Facebook, Twitter, blogs, apps, and any new way to communicate and educate that is going to break out in the online world in the future — is just another step in that very right direction. And we’re just getting started.”
