Where is kosher at the intersection of technology and grocery?
Amazon is in the midst of rapidly expanding its Fresh service across the country, delivering groceries in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
A number of signs point to Amazon Fresh opening up in New York later this year, aiming to compete with the FreshDirect online grocer that delivers to residences and offices in the New York City metropolitan area.
The kosher industry has yet to catch up to what is being offered in technology, selection and service. The website www.KosherFamily.com, however, is an exception.
As reported on COLlive.com a few months ago, the site was launched by the upscale supermarket The MarketPlace, located in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood.
A growing number of residents and nearby Shluchim are already enjoying the online kosher grocery shopping thanks to My Cloud Grocer, a local start-up.
“The product images are amazing,” says Liel Maximov, a Crown Heights resident and a mother of three. “The online site is very easy to use and is extremely fast. It allows me to save time for what really matters.”
Since its launch last September the KosherFamily.com customer base is growing fast and steady, ordering its full line of top quality kosher groceries, COLlive was told.
“Our customers’ excitement encourages us to expand,” says Shloimy Gelbstein, the supermarket manager. “We put a lot of effort into customer service and people really appreciate it.”
Over the last few weeks, The MarketPlace delivery vans were spotted driving around the neighborhood equipped with new graphics and fresh food.
Beginning on May 7, and every Wednesday to follow, these vans will be delivering outside of the neighborhood bringing fresh kosher groceries to the doorsteps of many more Jews.
“In response to an overwhelming amount of requests, The MarketPlace is expanding its popular service to include Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Brooklyn Heights, Upper West Side, and Upper East Side neighborhoods,” said owner Itsik Ben Abou.
“The online grocery shopping platform is built on cutting edge technology and new features are being introduced constantly, reflecting customers’ feedback,” says Dan Dashevsky, My Cloud Grocer’s co-founder.
“It’s great to see online kosher grocery shopping going mainstream with The Market Place leading the way.”
We Jews in Seattle have nothing like this, Amazon Fresh Grocery Delivery stopped offering its Kosher Grocer leaving us dreaming of NYC….

B”H in Monsey we have a choice of shopping online or in the store. You can buy the stuff online and have it delivered to your home. According to Rockland Kosher’s site, they ship nationwide with UPS and they also do free local deliveries.
I’m glad other places are starting to pick up on this great way to shop. It makes it much easier than going to the store. Much hatzlacha!
