At a farbrengen on Chof Daled Menachem Av 5738, the Rebbe made a special request from school administrators: To raise the salaries of the teachers before the school year would start.
That year, the cost of living had risen dramatically, and many people were worried about their parnassah. “Add at least 5% or 10% to their salaries without checking if it will fit the budget,” the Rebbe instructed.
The Rebbe then explained that raising the salaries would serve as a double advantage. Firstly, it would relieve stress from the teachers, allowing them to devote themselves fully to the chinuch of our children. Secondly, it would show the teachers that chinuch is our top priority.
The board of Oholei Torah has announced that “we have taken the Rebbe’s words to heart. We are proud to announce that we are substantially increasing the salaries of all the mechanchim and mechanchos of Oholei Torah.
“Teachers have the most important job in the world. The future of our children is in their hands. When our teachers are happy and taken care of, it directly affects their classrooms. They can give themselves over fully to their students, and everyone wins.
“We are humbled and in awe of the tremendous work of our mechanchim and mechanchos. On behalf of the parents of Oholei Torah and the entire community, we thank and show gratitude to our hardworking educators,” they said.
Kol hakavod OT!
This is news worth reporting. Thank you OT for always being one step ahead.
The mechanchos and mechanchim in all the schools need and deserve at leat a 10% increase in this runaway inflation that is happening!!
–Gasoline is nearly double the price of 18 months ago: that’s an almost 100% increase.
–Eggs are at least triple what I was paying just before Shavuos — that would be a 300%÷ increase.
–Utility bills are projected to double this winter: that woukd be a 100% increase.
==========
SO it is good to hear that our teachers, who continually behave with devotion and mesirus nefesh, will be getting a raise this new year.
TY Rebbe: may the other yeshivos follow OT’s lead!
AND ALL SCHOOLS WILL FOLLOW AMEN
BCM CH is also giving raises!
Yasher koach to them!
10% raise from BCM
How much is considered “substantially increasing the salaries”? Is10% substantial? Or is 5%? Or 3%?
When was the last cost of living increase?
If salaries haven’t kept up with inflation, salaries effectively have decreased over the years. The increase, if substantial enough, would equalize the purchasing power of today’s salary to the salary of years ago.
This is a great START, yasher koach, but by no means the end. Annual SUBSTANTIAL increases are necessary.
