The New York Police Department announced the promotion of Deputy Inspector Joseph Hayward, Commanding Officer (CO) of the 71st Precinct in central Brooklyn, to the rank of full Inspector this week.
Also promoted was Community Affairs Officer Mike Baratta, who helps the precinct service the southern portion of Crown Heights, Wingate, and Prospect Lefferts, to the rank of Detective.
These were discretionary promotions by the leadership of the NYPD in recognition of the dedication of Hayward and Baratta in keeping the peace in the area.
The ceremony, held in a small capacity due to the Covid pandemic, was overseen by NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea, Chief of Personnel Martin Morales and First Deputy Commissioner Benjamin Tucker.
These promotions were announced in time for a busy week in Crown Heights as the Jewish community prepares for the celebration of Pesach which begins on Motzoei Shabbos, the eve of the 14th of Nissan.
COLlive.com was told that additional police officers will be patrolling the street during the 8-day holiday which celebrates the liberation of the Jewish people from slavery in Egypt.
The precinct is also preparing to accommodate the events celebrating the Rebbe’s birthday on Wednesday, Yud Aleph Nissan. Scheduled is a public viewing of the Rebbe’s talks outside 770 Eastern Parkway, as well as a Mitzvah Tank Parade.
