While New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio won’t label frum Jewish communities among the “hardest hit by Covid,” one of his hopeful successors is promising to change that and make vaccines available to Brooklyn’s Jews.
Kathryn Garcia, a Democratic mayoral candidate and former Sanitation Commissioner, says that both the mayor and Governor Andrew Cuomo “failed to effectively engage with much of the Orthodox Jewish community to develop and communicate policies to combat Covid.”
In an op-ed in the Forward, Garcia said this strained relationship led “to a major breakdown in trust.” She said “the City needs to find a new path forward with the Jewish community” and that will work with Jewish leaders “to enable people to practice their faith safely.”
As reported, the U.S. Supreme Court found Cuomo’s restrictions on synagogue worship to be capped at 10- and 25-person as discriminatory.
Garcia said she will be vigilant about counteracting assumptions about religious education. “The majority of our city’s parochial schools, including yeshivas, provide a strong educational foundation for children whose parents have chosen a non-traditional public school environment,” she stated in the article.
As for the “bungled vaccine rollout,” Garcia wrote: “I will prioritize vaccine access for our hardest hit communities, including Borough Park, Crown Heights and Williamsburg. And I’ll plan ahead for an annual distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine, in case we need annual boosters.”
She also expressed her support for Israel and against the BDS movement, and said she will center the city’s efforts to combat antisemitism, which are currently inefficiently distributed across a number of agencies and offices.

I don’t want your vaccines. Just promise you’ll leave me alone to enjoy my life the way I choose.
And I’ll plan ahead for an annual distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine, in case we need annual boosters.”
Firstly – annually? (a DNA changing vaccine?)
Secondly – is this “planning ahead” – a means of somehow, somewhere forcing us
to take her goodwill vaccines (because she is so nice to the Jews in the above areas)…?
Still talking (and believing) this nonsense about “DNA changing”?
Let the experts who really know vaccines give their opinion and leave your statements limited to your area of expertise, which I assume, given your misinformation, has nothing to do with vaccines or DNA
Is there not a giant vaccination site right in Crown Heights? I saw plenty of frum Jews there. Why make it seems like frum communities dont have access?
