New Jersey Shluchim gathered virtually on Thursday night for a Kinus Hisorerus in memory of their beloved colleague Rabbi Levi Wolosow OBM, who passed away suddenly earlier in the week at age 43.
The gathering, organized by the Rabbinical College of America and Chabad of New Jersey, under the leadership of Rabbi Mendy Herson, brought together Shluchim from across the state to share memories and draw inspiration from Rabbi Wolosow’s dedicated life of Shlichus.
“This has been a month of both achdus and profound loss for our family of Shluchim,” noted Rabbi Herson in his opening remarks, referencing the recent inaugural NJ Shluchim family Shabbaton, the passing of Head Shliach, Rabbi Moshe Herson A”H, and now the untimely loss of Rabbi Wolosow A”H.
Rabbi Moshe Gourarie, Shliach to Toms River and a close friend of Rabbi Wolosow’s, served as emcee for the evening. He shared a powerful sicha from the Rebbe from Hoshana Raba 1984, where the Rebbe spoke about the incomprehensible nature of golus and the necessity to cry out for Moshiach with complete sincerity. Rabbi Gourarie extended words of comfort to the Chazanow and Wolosow families and the Shluchim of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
Rabbi Avraham Bernstein, who worked alongside Rabbi Wolosow at Chabad of Western Monmouth County for 18 years, recalled his colleague’s unwavering enthusiasm for Shlichus. “His excitement from his beginning days of Shlichus never wore off,” Rabbi Bernstein shared, noting how Rabbi Wolosow consistently arranged farbrengens for yoma depagra and recently advocated for sharing stories of the Rebbe with the younger generation.
Connecticut Head Shliach Rabbi Yisrael Deren addressed the gathering, drawing from the Rebbe’s teachings while emphasizing the importance of Shluchim supporting one another – a value Rabbi Wolosow exemplified throughout his life.
The Shluchim discussed the ongoing fundraising campaign to support Mrs. Chanale Wolosow and her children, noting how the outpouring of donors has provided comfort to the family during this difficult time. [Those wishing to participate in supporting the family can donate here.
Looking ahead, the Shluchim committed to several initiatives in Rabbi Wolosow’s memory, including a weekly supply of Rebbe stories for New Jersey Shluchim families to share at their respective Shabbos tables. This initiative reflects Rabbi Wolosow’s passion for infusing his home and family with a closeness to the Rebbe, and avidly sharing the Rebbe’s teachings with his community.
Rabbi Wolosow is survived by his wife Mrs. Chanale Wolosow, who is expecting their ninth child, their children Nochum, Dov, Mendel, Tzipa, Miriam, and Uziel, and their adopted children Naomi and Tani.
The family continues to sit shiva at 41 Heather Dr, Manalapan, NJ 07726. Shiva times and minyanim details can be found on COLlive.
