Public schools in New York State may yet see a mask-wearing mandate for the start of the academic year, said Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul while visiting a school in Corona, Queens on Wednesday, NY Daily News reported.
Hochul, who’s set to become the state’s top executive following Gov. Cuomo’s sudden resignation last week, said the state Health Department has the power to call for mandatory mask usage at public schools.
That appeared to mark a shift from her previous comments emphasizing she supports such a measure, but doesn’t have the power to implement it on her own.
“Mask mandates is something that the Department of Health has the authority to call for. They have that authority now, and I will assess whether or not we’ll know whether that’s been called for,” Hochul told reporters during a visit to an elementary school.
Masks should be required in all public schools, and private schools should care about their students just as much and do the same.
That’s why there should be no mask not for teachers or student so they can breathe and learn better ( especially since masks don’t prevent anything except oxygen,)

Do you ask your girls to dress modestly and your boys to wear tzitzis? Why is a mask any different? Kids follow dress codes every day at school, wearing a mask can be another aspect of that dress code.

Uhhh where have you been for the past year? We have been back to normal and are doing just fine thank you. Not sure what will be this coming year with all those injected with the antibody dependent enhancement. But I for one sure hope the hydroxy/zinc vit d protocol that helped every high risk person I know get through covid without long term issues will work for the vaccinated who will catch covid too. Just make sure to start by the third day

Because the delta variant is way easier to spread and catch and because it’s directly impacting children and putting them in the hospital.
It actually is NOT directly impacting children. Not sure where this is coming from in the US, as where I’m from, we’ve had the Delta variant for some time and children are being affected the same way as before
Some of the comments are obviously from people that don’t live in our community. Last year our children had a wonderful year and did not wear masks most of the year. We are one year ahead since our schools were open. Our kids are in day camps and sleep away camps unmasked – why does school have to be different
I hope masks become required for the sake of the children, and I hope Jewish schools follow their lead.
Our kids were unmasked for the whole last year. Our kids are learning and thriving- we will not go backwards. Our children put the traumatic experience of the pandemic behind them.
You can claim all you want that the pandemic is behind you, but if you wanna jump back into reality you’ll see that the pandemic is still current and getting worse.

Fauci himself said the virus can go right through the mask. The thing doesn’t stop the spread, it only hurts the person wearing it by not letting the person breath enough Oxygen. Follow the science not the lies

For which they need to be able to breathe freely. The problems caused by masks (both physiological, as in not getting enough oxygen, and psychological) are orders of magnitude more deadly than of a virus with a 99.8% survival rate.
