New Torah Started in Merit of Rabbi Shloimy Greenwald’s Recovery

As hundreds of Chassidim worldwide traveled to Almaty to honor the Rebbe on the inspiring 80th yahrzeit of his father, the Mekubal Reb Levi Yitzchak obm, one Chossid, Rabbi Shloimy Greenwald, faced an unexpected and critical challenge when he fell suddenly ill during this special journey.

He is currently receiving treatment in one of the best hospitals in Istanbul, under the care of a top medical team. Meanwhile, his family, friends, and Yidden around the world are davening fervently for his recovery.

Rabbi Shloimy Greenwald is a man of great vision and action. He is the founder of many organizations and mosdos, including United For Protection Sifrei Torah, the famous Hatzalah-Thon that has raised tens of millions of dollars for over 60 Hatzalah organizations worldwide, Project Likkutei Sichos which was embraced and studied weekly by thousands, and the Rambam app. He has also established a very successful Kolel L’Horaah Ma’asis, preparing Rabbonim and dayanim to serve communities. Rabbi Shloimy Greenwald has contributed significantly to yeshivos and schools and created the Raisethon platform, inspiring thousands of Yidden to give tzedakah. His achievements in Torah, tzedakah, and askanus are countless.

Now, Harav Yosef Shlomo Ben Risha needs our tefilos and mitzvos for a continued and complete recovery.

His friends and family, led by his partners and cofounders, R’ Beryl Junik and R’ Zalmy Cohen of United For Protection and Hatzalah-Thon, have initiated the writing of a Sefer Torah in his merit, to hasten his recovery and enable him to return to his extraordinary work in tzedakah, Torah, and askanus.

The beginning of the Sefer Torah writing took place in Beis Gimpel Shul, where Rabbi Shloimy Greenwald serves as Rov, gives daily shiurim, and leads the Kolel L’Horaah Ma’asis.

Rabbi Shloimy Greenwald’s friend and Rosh yeshiva, Rabbi Chaim Schapiro, Menahel of Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim of Morristown, addressed the event, emphasizing that Rabbi Shloimy Greenwald has shown mesiras nefesh and inspired thousands. Now, he needs our help through extra tefilos and mitzvos.

The first letters were written by his family, friends, and community leaders, including members of Hatzalah of Crown Heights and representatives of Central Hatzalah. R’ Zalmy Cohen, a close friend and organizer of the Sefer Torah, recited the Birkas Kohanim and offered a special bracha for a Refuah Sheleima immediately.

It was noted that the Torah begins with the word בראשית ברא, which includes the name יוסף שלמה בן רישה. The word ברא implies “to be healthy,” and with the two additional letters את, we hope and pray for a complete recovery from Alef to Tof.

With the support of his family, this Torah is being coordinated by Shloimy’s two close friends and partners, R’ Beryl Junik and R’ Zalmy Cohen, co-founders of United For Protection and Hatzalah-Thon. These are the same partners who initiated the Unity Sefer Torah project during COVID, which later evolved into the launch of Hatzalah-Thon, now responsible for raising millions of dollars for Hatzalah worldwide.

We turn to Klal Yisroel and encourage each of you to take upon a mitzvah, give charity, and take a letter in Rabbi Shloimy Greenwald’s zechus and honor. The same way Shloimy was part of and a leader in the Torah for Klal Yisroel, let’s, in return, have Klal Yisroel now come together in achdus to write a Torah for him and hasten his full recovery.
