The International Kinus Hashluchim, the annual convention of Chabad-Lubavitch Emissaries which will be opening Wednesday night in Brooklyn, is facing further challenges.
After moving the gala banquet from the flooded Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook to the smaller New York Hilton in Manhattan, a new storm is threatening to halt transportation into New York.
AP reports that airlines are again looking at canceling flights in and out of the Northeast, just a week after Superstorm Sandy led to more than 23,000 cancellations in the region.
As of now, airlines grounded close to 800 flights between noon Wednesday and noon Thursday out of Newark Liberty, John F. Kennedy International and LaGuardia airports.
Among those airlines are United, Delta Air Lines and US Airways. Passengers are being rebooked without paying the usual change fees.
Other airlines said they are evaluating which flights will and won’t be canceled, AP said.
The program of the Kinus begins on Thursday with a full day of sessions and workshops at the Brooklyn Marriott hotel. Davening and meals will be held there as well to help Shluchim mingle and at the same time focus on key issues.
Friday they will be back in Crown Heights for more sessions and Shabbos. As with past years, a group of Shluchim will be spending Shabbos at the Rebbe’s Ohel.
