The song “Dear Meir” was written in memory of a young Bochur Meir Likhovetski obm, who was tragically killed in a car accident one year ago.
“Dear Meir”was performed by Yehuda Leib Kalmanson, a 12-year-old shliach from Mason, OH. The music was composed by songwriter Sarah Dukes, with lyrics written by Goldie Kalmanson.
Meir, a Bochur from Toronto, came to the Chabad Jewish Discovery Center in Mason, OH last year to support and expand community programming. Sadly, Meir was killed in a tragic car accident a week before Purim.
Meir had a tremendous impact on the community. Yehuda developed a close connection with Meir, who inspired him to do whatever he could to help another Jew, even when not in the mood and much effort was required.
Yehuda established a lending library for the Mason community in Meir’s memory, which he called “Meir Yakov’s Library.” Community members can borrow books on a variety of Jewish Topics. This song expresses the power of performing Mitzvos in someone’s memory.
This video was played at an event for the Jewish Discovery Center on February 26, held in memory of Meir. Rabbi Aharon Herman addressed the community on how to turn pain into purpose and Judaism’s approach to challenges. Many tears were shed.
An area teen, Jake Murphy, from the local CTeen chapter, stood up and told the crowd that since Meir has passed, he has put on Tefillin every day because he knows that Meir can’t do this Mitzvah himself.
Meir was known for his smile and excitement for life. He always wanted to give in any way he could. He was passionate about printing Tanyas and encouraging every Jew to increase their observance, even one Mitzvah. He left a void in the community of Mason and worldwide by all those who had the z’chus of knowing him.
