Morning Stars, the new single by singer/songwriter Shlomo Gleyzer, is based on a teaching of the Maggid of Mezritch on the words “B’ran yachad kochvei voker” – “the morning stars sing together.”
The Maggid explains that all of creation – even the angels – waits for us to sing our song before they can sing theirs. That’s how essential we are in the eyes of Hashem.
As the Baal Shem Tov teaches: each and every one of us is as precious to Hashem as a one and only son born to parents in their old age, so to speak. The Rebbe explains the reason the Bal Shem Tov adds “so to speak,” is because even that can’t truly capture Hashem’s love which is infinitely greater. It’s simply the closest imagery we have in this world. We are the purpose of creation – the “thought” that Hashem had before He spoke the world into existence. The Rebbe brings this teaching of the Maggid in Basi L’Gani 5723. When we studied that maamar a few years back this song was born.
In recent years, I’ve noticed a disturbing rise in how some voices keep putting down other Yiddin, and are so quick to negatively judge and criticize. I strongly feel that we need voices that uplift and empower us, not put us down and degrade us. Every one of us should know how valued we are in the eyes of Hashem. it’s our responsibility to share that. I hope I can give some of that over in this song.
There are many songs about Jewish pride, but not too many about Hashem’s pride in us. There are many songs about our faith in Hashem, but not as many about His faith in us. Earlier this year I released Witnesses with that message, and now Morning Stars continues along the same vein.
The track itself was my most demanding production to date. This song took a really long time till I felt I got it right, working and reworking the arrangement and perfecting each layer of sound from drums and synths to acoustic and electric guitars. Every instrument was recorded and re-recorded until it felt right. I hope Morning Stars inspires you, empowers you, and maybe even gets you dancing. If Morning Stars does one thing, I hope it reminds you that you are loved, you are valued, you are needed, and the world is waiting for your song!
