Jews from around Ukraine were among the first of many visitors who are spending the 24th of Teves at the village of Haditch to commemorate the yartzeit of the Alter Rebbe, of blessed memory.
Thousands are expected at his Ohel over the 24 hours of the yartzeit of Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, the Alter Rebbe who founded the Chabad-Lubavitch movement and authored the Tanya and Shulchan Aruch Harav.
Visitors will be spending time at the holy gravesite and the Heichal Admur Hazaken building where minyanim, shiurim and farbrengens will be held. One of them will be led by Jerusalem Mashpia Rabbi Chaim Sholom Deitsch.
In the presence of the early visitors, a second smaller shul was inaugurated at the Ohel. Placing the Mezuzah was Dnipro Head Shliach and Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminetzky and Rabbi Shneur Zalman Deitsch, who oversees the activities and accommodations in Haditch.
“We have seen the number of visitors coming to Haditch only grew over the years,” Rabbi Deitsch said. “It is very powerful to see the representation of Jews from all backgrounds and groups. There’s something very uniting here.”
As COLlive.com reported, the historic Jewish cemetery where the Alter Rebbe’s Ohel is located was recently incorporated with local authorities and fenced in for protection and dignity.
