Ahead of the month of Tishrei, the Crown Heights Simchas Beis HaShoeiva committee, which organizes the nightly dancing festivities each night of Sukkos on Kingston Avenue, has announced a new rule for this year’s event.
In a letter to the community, they inform that no street vending of any kind will be permitted, and will be enforced by the NYPD. The letter is signed by the Crown Heights Rabbonim, the CHJCC, and community and school leadership.
The full letter appears below:

Dear Members of Anash,
As we approach the joyous days of Simchas Beis HaShoeiva, we are grateful for the opportunity to once again celebrate together in the Rebbe’s Shchunah. This great privilege carries with it the responsibility to ensure that our celebration is conducted safely, with dignity and respect.
We would like to make you aware of an important policy that will be strictly enforced this year:
No street vending of any kind will be permitted.
The NYPD and private security will enforce this policy, and all stands, booths, and tables will be removed.
We ask parents to take this seriously and ensure that children comply. This measure is essential to protect everyone attending and to maintain clear access for emergency and law enforcement personnel.
This decision was made in full consultation and agreement with our Rabbonim, schools, and community safety organizations.
Thank you to every member of the community for your cooperation and partnership.
We hope these steps strengthen the true spirit of Simchas Beis HaShoeiva and ensure the celebration is the uplifting Kiddush Hashem the Rebbe envisioned.
May this year’s Simchas Beis HaShoeiva bring only Brochos, and may we be zoche to dance together in Yerushalayim at the ultimate celebration with the coming of Moshiach Tzidkeinu.
With warm wishes for a Ksiva V’chasima Tova,

About time
Bezras Hashem this will achieve only good
Let’s make Simchas Beis Hashoevah holy again
We’re celebrating Simchas Beis Hashoevah which is an extremely holy endeavour like was done in the Beis Hamikdash
One of the holiest things done in the Beis Hamikdash
Now I’ll be able to take my children to Simchas Beis Hashoevah and not be worried about what they will be exposed to
You mean like cotton candy and hot dogs?
Is right down the block for all your needs
Fully support so happy Baruch ahs!
You mean it’ll be simchas beis the way it was intended?
Assuming this can actually be enforced, this is great!
Thank you for instituting this policy!!!
Here for the comments though
(Popcorn)
Against the rules against street vendors! 😅
Good! Thank you Hashem!
Shmira and shomrim cosigned. A gut gebentched yur to all
Is this our problem?!? From what I have seen over the past years it seems to me that there are bigger issues 1) safety issues like anyone can just join be who it is… or stamped or people on the rooftops. 2) many Halachik issues like dancing and singing women and girls right near the men section. Or the whole tri state area less frum teens rushing in to party all over the streets and btw shutting all these “venders” will only put all these Chabad teens in more of a test for the wrong things that surround Simchas Bais… Read more »
100% agree!!! Plus these venders are only many opened for the first’s few hours. As appose to these mentioned go on ALL night.
Could not have put it better myself
Thank you for implementing this overdue policy.
The best news yet
This is a great step, always important to acknowledge when stuff are done to benefit the community. Let’s still be realistic the assaults & other crimes that happened last year near Simchas Beis (and on Purim night) by both certain CH and Flatbush teens will possibly repeat itself, there’s no way 100% to stop it. Removing street venders is a great start, but believe it or not most of the “fray” teens that caused the real trouble are still in Yeshiva & a big deterrence would be for the Simchas Beis committee to pay both local CH & Flatbush principals… Read more »
Much needed policy!! Will most definitely enhance the beautiful nightly dancing, in a most positive way! Thank you to the organizers, listed and unlisted 😉
#achsheli ❤️
Good on many levels!
Good morning America
wow finaly
The vibe of venodrs will trully be missed- the lights, the cotton candy, the burgers, and all the excitment that filled the air. Some venodrs- kids did very well, others struggled, but for everyone it was a wonderful experience: a taste of entrepreneupreship and a real lesson in how hard work can be. Each participant walked away with growth, memories, nd valuable learning. We all very thankful for your hard work and will miss all the food, the pitchkales and creativity. PS. It is very expensive and really hard work to run the boot/ table and sometimes not profitable at… Read more »
They just don’t understand kids
Can the N.Y.P.D also make some excuse for barricading the dreidel…or better yet shmira/shomrim have a show of presence there too.
That’s the other area where trouble seems to brew annually
Just curious
When my family heard about this new change we celebrated! This is wonderful! I’m looking forward to seeing it in action!
What will our kids do without the light up yoyos that they lose in 5 minutes after the battery dies?!?!
Just kidding 🙂 buy toys for your kids on Amazon and enjoy the music
So happy to hear! It was so enraging seen kids spraying those foam cans on passerby . The street was filthy after from all the junk that was sold!
We come to see the dancing and it is not a street fair! KUDOS for having the guts to change the rules and i hope it will be implemented!!!!
some may think that little kids as vendors are the issue but in truth the real challenge comes from the alcohol and drugs that are too freely available everywhere – maybe take care of real street dealers that sells openly.
This is a great step It will make the emphasis on the dancing And not on the chaos around it The organisers of Simchas Beis Hashoevah are just trying to do the best they can and make the changes that are within there court – for the best of the community Yes, obviously there are much bigger issues here – but those are beyond their control. Let them at least make the change that they can do, and let’s applaud them for it. Thank you to those that are stepping up and doing what they can to make this experience… Read more »
Good move. May we all be celebrating the OG Simchas Bais Ha’shueva without today’s hottest singer.
If this means we reduce or better yet eliminate the silly string and mess on the streets I’m all for it.
Maybe next year they can set up a woman’s dancing tent
wow wow wow
there was an issue
we discussed a solution
and it was heard
amazing
It used to be fine with just a few kids tables. At this point it’s full on restaurants, with no kashrus oversight, and it’s just not okay anymore.
SBH 86 is sounding better than ever!! Just keeps getting better unbelievable team!
I understand the problems it creates but you can’t complain when kids are not active enough when you shut them down when they try. Come up with a better solution that gets kids involved.
Get them.involved by dancing! This is the whole point on simchas beis! Not food the main focus! They are missing the point..
Not sure this is really the source of the problems. Trouble making teens aren’t necessarily being drawn to simchas Beis because of vendors and crowd control is a much much bigger issue. A) we don’t fit on Kingston, we need to move to a wider Blvd like empire and B) there needs to be cops and a lot of them controlling the flow of foot traffic especially on the women’s side. I can’t describe how dangerous trying to walk from andrusiers to apple drugs was last year. Stupid stupid teen and twenties girls thought it was funny to attempt to… Read more »
I loved those. We could just have removed the messy sprays.
What about the gangs? Any person acting wild or not tznius should be escorted out by servility.
That would be much more helpful, holy, and safe than worrying about a few light up toys and hot dog stands.
הגיע הזמן סוף סוף
Thank you!
So proud
I don’t think this is the solution. I think a better solution would have been to regulate it to a small number of vendors and regulate what they can sell ( such as no silly string) and where they can sell. In addition, they can be picked by a lottery then, you have to pay a fee to actually attend and sell that can help fund the simcha This was not really an issue. Prior to COVID, due to the small number of venters, back then. And with a smaller number, someone, you can make strict rules to prevent any… Read more »
not going be the same you need to have some venders last yr was to many took up i think 2 blocks there should be a way to apply to have a a stand to sell your stuff just limit
Can they also remove the boxes that are put on the ladies side and literally making a wall ,and who ever isn’t in the front cant see anything, beside the danger if the lose their balance and whoever is on the back will get hurt.
