Sweet Expressions, the ice cream and candy shop on Kingston Avenue and Union Street in Crown Heights, has a new owner who plans to give back to the community.
Businessman Yerachmeal Jacobson and his son Mendel Jacobson are the new owners of the popular shop, which was previously owned by Avrumi Schwartz, a Monroe resident who built the store up and expanded its offerings since he purchased it in 2012.
The shop has become something of a community hub, with indoor and outdoor seating areas, and offering Kosher dairy and parve ice cream, hot and cold drinks, candy, chocolates and nosh, and is a popular meeting spot for both residents and visitors to the Crown Heights neighborhood.
The store also serves frozen yogurts, gelato and razzles, as well as french crepes, Belgian waffles and hot nuts. They also carry a full line for those watching their weight – natural fruit shakes, soft sorbet and low fat frozen yogurts.
Schwartz recently opened another shop near Monroe and decided to sell the Crown Heights location, Jacobson told COLlive, giving Jacobson the opportunity to join the retail sector.
Aside from expanding the gift basket and platter section, which Yerachmeal Jacobson says “can definitely be expanded and improved,” he is also planning on revamping the customer service, and work on eliminating the long wait time for purchases.
But most importantly, he says, he is looking forward to giving back to the community, pledging to donate 10 percent of the net proceeds to Bais Rivkah School in Crown Heights, of which he is a Board Member.
“This store is so much a part of the community, serving children and families every day,” Jacobson told COLlive. “So it’s important to me to give back.”
“It’s really nice when our local shops are owned by residents, who care about the community and make it a priority to give back to those who support us,” he said.
Mazal tov!!! Wishing you much hatzlacha!!
Mazel tov Mendel .. you should have lots of hatzlacha with this new position..

Now that’s a plan to support schools! Let’s get all the schools to have a board member buy a store and support their school with a percentage of the proceeds!
Just want to mention one point. This store is right across from the Rebbes shul- 770! Please please make an effort to play nice and aidel jewish music 😊 The music is heard by everybody that passes by outside!
Mazzel tov!
That’s the way to go
To eliminate the line, separate cashier job and barista /ice cream maker like in all ice creams stores. So line will be moving faster, one person can deal with money and two with orders when busy
Pls ask all use disposable gloves – they clean store, take money and all without any or same glove 🧤
Thanks hazlohos
Thank you for making so much happen.
May you both be bentched with lots of mazal.
look who i see…
Jakey has now expanded his canteen
I remember In 1989 in gan yisroel new york yerachmiel was part of the canteen, that was his job.
Unfortunately I agree with the suggestion to wear gloves & also to change gloves after touching dirty things. I saw a worker at another store on Kingston wring out a very dirty mop & then prepare food for someone without changing gloves! We want our food to be kosher AND clean 😁
Thanks to original owner avrumi shwarz – he brought an outside, new, upscale look to Kingston ave.
now many others have begun doing so in the neighborhood, but this was a prime corner and gave some pop to the hood.
I wish him well wherever he is.
And I wish the new owners much success, regardless of what they do with their profits. improve the place? sure. keep it colorful, fun, lively. and add better hygiene and faster service and lower prices. maybe have healthier ice cream and gelatos, show all the ingredients…
Please keep this s kosher spot for our young kids. Mr Schwartz was careful to never bring girls and boys to work same shift . And always kosher music . I’m sure we can expect this from a fellow chasid! Thank you for all that you do for the community
giving to Beis Rivka is a great idea, especially when the largest percent of customers are BR students! Hatzlacha Raba in all your endeavors.
Wow this is unbelievable! Jakes went from canteen in parksville to owning THE spot in ch! Mazal tov Reb Yid!
Hatzlocho Rabah!!
I recently went in to buy a hostess gift and I was very impressed by the beautiful selection of gift items (they were more expensive than I expected, though.) But to give back 10% to Beis Rivka?? I wouldn’t mind paying those prices next time, it’s a wonderful thing for the Jacobsons to do!
More Chabad Niggunim ?
Lots of Hatzlocha and success…
Credit is given where credit is due! Mr. Schwartz worked hard for so many years to build this fantastic store. Always clean and well taken care of, I wish all stores in the neighborhood copy suit.
As well Mr Schwartz was always with a smile on his face and took care of us. My brother a shluach tells me that he used to give out free coupons for them and for their kids. Kodus Mr. Schwartz and wishing you lots of luck!
