Echoing the feeling of shluchim worldwide, Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky told a group of 150 bochurim Motzei Shabbos “this is the most important thing you can do.”
The bochurim had gathered at the Jewish Children’s Museum for the third annual Myshliach appreciation evening. Created to fill a void, Myshliach together with its sister programs of Hachayol, Myshliach girls and the birthday club, provides and cares for the chassidishe well being of shluchim’s children.
The evening started with an open buffet, with opening remarks given by the MC of the evening Rabbi Eli Wolf. Rabbi Wolf then introduced Rabbi Markwoitz who explained how much of a positive impact an older bochur/mentor can have on a shliach’s child, detailed the lasting effect this has.
One parent who has witnessed the tremendous impact of the MyShliach program is Shliach Rabbi Yossi Blesofsky from Bayside, Queens.
Speaking not only on behalf of his own children but also on behalf of his nephews and nieces who live in communities that are isolated and void of Jewish infrastructure, Rabbi Blesofsky told the bochurim, “You are the lifeline to these children.”
The gratitude that he expressed to all the bochurim was immense yet he singled out his own children’s mentors, Levi Lobenstein and Yitzchok Pewzner for special praise.
Speaking about the practical aspect of the program and the amazing feedback that he receives on a daily basis from the parents, the director of Myshliach, Rabbi Mendy Shanowitz received a standing ovation from the crowd, signifying the special appreciation that everyone has for all the effort and hard work that he puts into Myshliach to make it the success that it is.
The crowd was then privy to a pirsum rishon video of the Rebbe from Yud Shevat, Tof Shin Nun Beis. With special thanks to Jem and Elkanah Shmotkin for providing the video, the bochurim watched as the Rebbe stood at the ohel for hours on end.
Rabbi Wolf then introduced Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky the chairman of the International Kinus Hashluchim and Myshliach, who after watching the video of the Rebbe decided to focus on how we can give the Rebbe nachas on this Yud Shevat.
He called upon the bochurim to write into the Rebbe about the well being of their child and their involvement in this crucial program. Rabbi Kotlarsky went on to give a brief history as to how events unfolded before the Rebbe took upon himself the nesihus and how Lubavitch has grown over the years. He finished by thanking the Rohr family for all that they do for shluchim worldwide and for making this program available.
The event concluded with the group photo and the handing out of the new pninim sefer as a token of appreciation.
MyShliach is a project of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch and is sponsored through a generous grant from the Rohr family foundation.
