Pinchas Antal from Montreal, QC and Gavriel Eagle from Baltimore, MD have been friends for three years. What brought them together? Their mutual love and dedication to music.
For the last 3 years, the teens have come together to play selections of music from Chabad niggunim to classical works. This summer, they took on a piece by Grammy-nominated musician, Sarah Dukes.
Gavriel (cellist) and Pinchas (pianist) worked over the course of 2 weeks, in August, to write a part for the cello and then record this emotional and beautiful song, entitled “Raining Rockets.”
Dukes composed “Raining Rockets” during the 2014 Gaza War and it is one of her favorite pieces. As she says, “I feel truly honored that they chose one of my compositions to perform and record together. I love the combination of piano and cello together, and it’s so nice for me to hear my composition being performed together with cello accompaniment!”
The boys’ performance reminded Dukes of the beauty that strings can add to her works. You can be sure to see cello in her upcoming compositions.
Since about five hundred miles separate the musical duo, they will spend time working on their personal musical development during the school year. But, when summer rolls around (or sooner if the opportunity arises), Pinchas and Gavriel will continue to collaborate with each other, as well as other artists, to create incredible music. Hashgacha pratis combined with practice brought a purposeful performance.
