The days between Shavuos and The Three Weeks are an interesting time. The joy is over and the mourning has not begun yet. What is our mission during this time period?
Rabbi Benzion Klatzko explains that the spiritual heights and longings that we experienced over Shavuos are meant to energize us to bring the geulah immediately! The mission is, through our Torah learning, to transform the three weeks from a time of sadness to a time of joy.
“Umipnei” was composed by Rabbi Klatzko as a prayer of longing for the Bais Hamikdash to be rebuilt. While these words are said during Shemona Esrei on Yom Tov, the longing that we have for Klal Yisrael to return to our home is to create a permanent state of joy and closeness to Hashem forever. While images speak louder than words, the combination of seeing Bais Hamikdash destroyed, and the next moment seeing the Jewish people returning to a rebuilt Yerushalayim, makes this song and video one of a kind!
Rabbi Klatzko sings this together with his three children, Gavriel (age 21), Azarya (age 16), and Luzy (age 12).
The music video, with animated footage provided by the Megalim Institute, shows the destruction of the Bais Hamikdash and Jerusalem, along with the scenes from when the kohanim served there on behalf of the Jewish people.

Lyrics Translation:
But because of our sins, we have been exiled from our land
and sent far from our soil.
We cannot perform our obligations in the House of Your choice.
May it be Your will, Hashem, our God and the God of our forefathers
O merciful King
That You once more be compassionate upon us.
don’t think this is something the Rebbe would promote and appreciate. I think the Rebbe would encourage a video about rebuilding the Bais Hamikdash, not one focusing on its destruction.
Famous sicha of the Rebbe, based on the Rogotchover Gaon, that the destruction of the Beis Hamikdosh is a peula nimsheches (constant and ongoing matter). As the Yerushalmi says that whoever doesn’t build the Mikdosh in his days, it’s as if it is being destroyed currently in his days. And even a Yid with a heart of stone, would be broken when he sees the Beish Hamikdosh burning, and he would “Ker a Velt”. Torah says that we must “Ker a velt” now, because its as if the Beis Hamikdosh is burning in front of our eyes… Not sure what… Read more »
We like to emphasize that golus is not only because of aveiros, but rather a process to fix the world, and make it fitting for Hashem.
That was thoroughly depressing
As said above would be better to focus on the positive, however someone should teach producers that the luchos were square not round on top to make it look more authentic.
but don’t want to watch a video that is specifically about the “destruction of the Bais haMikdash”. personally does not help me much in my avodas Hashem. causes ‘negative’ feelings. we know we need to mourn the churban, but let’s focus on learning hilchos bais habechira and watching videos of the Bais haMikdash that we daven for to be rebuilt right now with MOshiach NOW! May klal Yisroel no of no tzaar whatsover and only revealed health, happiness and success in all areas.
Certainly the person who made this video thought it would be a good educational tool, BUT I honestly could not watch it. To me it would be like standing by a dying person and just watching without doing anything to help.
If you watched it it’s because He wanted you to. Instead of criticizing it ask what can you learn from it?
This song is meant to make us feel pain sadness and remorse for the destruction of the Beis Hamikdash. It is currently the 3 weeks, and this is a time of mourning and sadness. We should listen and reflect on our aveiros and strive to be better so we can merit the rebuilding of the beis hamikdash uvi zman koriv.
