The Feders were unbelievable balei chesed, the nicest people. I was guest by them countless times many years ago. They were the warmest and most humble people I met. Whenever I have to visualize what Avrohom Avinu and Sarah Imanu must have been like, the Feders come to my mind. Terrible loss. I feel lucky and privileged to have known them.

I am lucky enough to know her brother’s family the Mandels of Chicago- a very special family also do such Hachnasas Orchim like Mrs.. Feder a”h. she sounds like a true Bas Melech and I’ve heard so many of the beautiful stories! what a special legacy!

An amazing woman who would be upset at being praised

Rochel was so humble. There are no words to truly describe her open heart and open hands. She was my role model and her children are a tribute to her. This is a terrible loss to the world.

wow!

Now that’s a Legacy! Those that knew her were greatly privileged.

When I was temporarily “down-and-out” for a few months, Mrs. Feder OBM kindly allowed me to stay with her family until I got a job and got back on my feet. This poor woman had so littler herself, yet accepted her lot and considered herself lucky. I remember her telling me how other families had it worse, and that frum families were particularly special in that they enjoyed great blessings in terms of large numbers of children, if not necessarily material wealth. Her loss is truly our loss: I know this from personal experience. She will never be replaced. Never.… Read more »

I was zoche to know Mrs. Rochel Feder since she was newly married. She and her husband began their lives by always taking in guests and literally giving up their beds for their orchim. When you spoke to her you could literally feel the schechina shine from her face. Even when she spoke about the tznius situation in crown heights (which really troubled her) she spoke with so much ahavas yisroel and tried to be positive and not be critical. She rather spoke hopefully, and gave examples of how eidel and fine people were. Crown Heights was zoche to have… Read more »

What a Machnus Oiroch! When visiting their home, I couldn’t make out who is the host, and who is the guests. The guests always felt comfortable like it would be their own home.
Should she be a מליצה ישרה melitza yshora for her family, extended family, and all of kllol yisroal

Rebono shel olam, we are surely too small to understand the good in this terrible tragedy. I remember Rochel Feder from Camp Emunah days where her father, Rabbi Mandel, was the camp Rabbi and her mother, Rebbitzin Mandel, gave sheurim to the staff. (If it applies, may they be well….) She grew up in one of the the most aidel of homes, reflected her upbringing in the most admirable ways, and was as perfect a Bas Yisroel as one is ever likely to meet. Moshiach already… To the choshuveh family Sheyichyu: Hamakom yinachem eschem b’soch sh’ar aveiley Tziyon Vee’rushalayim.

We so need Moshiach!! We cannot continue w/o people like this Tzadeikes!!
She was surely holding up a great part of the world with her amazing deeds and behavior! – I hope and pray that in her quiet and extremely aidel way she will impress on the Riboine Shel Oilam to make good on his promise -NOW!

Im soo shocked to hear this. I dont think there are enough words that could sufficiently describe her greatness or impact on my life. She loved Crown Heights and never ever wanted to live anywhere else.
I had the merit to have her and her husband walk me under the “Chupah”.
She always stressed Hashem and how He was her best friend.
Thank you Mrs. Feder. You were an inspiration and a real light in this world.

my daughters' teacher
September 9, 2013 5:24 pm

I’m in such shock I can’t believe what I just heard. I met her once as my dear daughters’ teacher. But always felt connected to her. She imbued so much love foe middos and respecting others. Even to the very young. They saw her as a real life example to emulate. We will really miss her. Her soft spoken good words just let your day go smoothly. May her family be comforted amongst the mourners of tzion.

I feel honored knowing I had the zechus to meet her, Not only was she like our mother Sara whose home was open to everybody and anybody but, she treated them as if they did her the biggest favor that they came to visit her. May she be a melitz yosher for all of us down here, May she be able to pull all the strings to end this bitter gulus and may we be reunited with her once again with Moshiach Now!!!!!

Mrs. Feder, the epitome of Yiddishe beauty and grace in the most royal and modest manner. Her chein shone from her face at all times, always a nice kind word or vertalach to say. She would even make sure to inquire how the family was doing, even though she ka’h had such a big one of her own. You just couldn’t get enough of her, and always walked away feeling better about yourself and wanting to be a better person.(just like her.) She was a gift from the Aibeshter to all of us! A true Baalas Chesed
September 9, 2013 2:46 pm

Did you ever wonder where that “character” hanging around the streets or your shule eats and sleeps? The type of guy that even the most open homes would not take in? The answer is either Feider or ybdl”t Jacobson’s house. Rebbetzin Feder would provide food, shelter and a listening ear to countless people, neshomos that nobody else would deal with. All this chesed was performed quietly without any fanfare.
As one of the posters said, this special lady is truly a daughter of Sarah Imeinu.

Mrs Feder was a living example of Sarah Ameinu, born and raised on Sterling Street, I can attest to her unconditional, unrestrictive, open love to all Yidden. Her home was always filled with Guest and her love for a fellow Jew was infinite. May the heavens open up and deliver us out of this dark and cloudy galus. Yemakom Yenachem Eschem
