Mrs. Necha Rubin, a long-time resident and member of the Lubavitch community in Montreal, Canada, passed away Wednesday, the first day of chol hamoed Sukkos 5773.
She was 81.
Born in Russia and surviving the many challenges Jews faced at the time, she was one of the pioneering members of the Lubavitch community in Montreal along with her husband, Reb Hershel Rubin OBM.
Her family proudly noted that she was one of the few staunch women to follow the Rebbe’s directives of wearing a shaitel back when it was still a novelty.
She is survived by her children R’ Yitzchok Rubin – Montreal, Canada; R’ Yisroel Rubin – Crown Heights, NY; and Rochel Mendelsohn – Ramat Shlomo, Israel.
She is also survived by her siblings Mrs. Menucha Gerstel – Montreal, Canada; R’ Avrohom Neumark – Bet Shemesh, Israel and R’ Berel Neumark – Long Beach, NY.
Her levaya took place Wednesday from Chesed Shel Emes in Montreal and she was laid to rest in the Lubavitch section of the Laval Mount Pleasant cemetery.
Shiva information to follow.

Sure enough she was there the very next week with all the mezuzahs required to that place which many Jewish people transited each day. I was shocked when she gave me the mezuzahs. She… Read more »
It says she was one of the few women, not the first.

just as with Mezuzos, Chitas & Tznius this Hachlata (of Shaitul) attracts many brachos from Hashem!!
The trend setter was Mrs. Chana Etka Gerlitsky OBM who was the FIRST shaitel in Montreal. May Mrs Rubin have a aliayh un aleh yidden a yeshuah
