Chazan Moshe Teleshevsky, known as “the Rebbe’s Chazan” whose beautiful voice and signature “Sheyiboneh” ended every farbrengen, passed away on the second day of Sukkos, 5773.
He was 85.
Chazan Teleshevsky was born in Russia. His father, a Rabbi and Chassidic Cantor, reared Moshe in the tradition of joy through music. At a very early age it became apparent that he had unusual musical talent; at nine he was already accompanying his father on the piano and at eleven he entered the concert field singing before standing room only audiences.
A Rabbi and Torah scholar as well, Chazan Teleshevsky’s natural talent was enriched by an outstanding musical education.
Chazan Teleshevsky’s rendition of Sheyiboneh, which ended with the crowd joining in with him, was a well-known part of every farbrengen of the Rebbe, and many other Chabad events.
He was also known for the Menorah lighting in 770, which he led while singing the blessings and the haneiros halalu prayer.
He is survived by his wife, Riva and children: Yisroel Teleshevsky of Melbourne, Australia, Rochie Barber of Sydney, Australia, and Chana Golda Naparstek of Crown Heights.
He is also survived by his sisters Mrs. Chana Popack of Crown Heights and Mrs. Rochel Simpson of Brighton Beach, NY.
The Levaya will take place Thursday, leaving Shomrei Hadas at 10:00 am and passing by 770 at 10:45 am.

In a book given out by the Gurary family it is written about a Yechidus R’ Zalman Gurary had with the Rebbe: The Rebbe shared with Reb Zalman of the Nachas caused to him by 3 Chasidim. One is R’ Moishe Gurkov from Boston… The second Chosid is the Chosid R’ Moishe Teleshevsky… The third Chosid is the Chosid R’ Michoel Teitlebaum…. The details as they are recorded in this book are somewhat not as remembered by those who heard it from R’ Zalman gurary at the time. So for those who want, they can read what is written in… Read more »

Back in the 70’s,i had the great privilege and zechus to learn Nusach haTefillah in its entirety including voice technique, beginning with Selichos until Tefilas Neilah;including all Tfilos of Sholosh Regolim and of Shabbos Kodesh.About a year later we moved to Miami Beach, and shortly after that i assumed a full-time position as chazzan.I spent much time and effort practicing his beatiful nusach liturgy, and with all these tools readily in hand ,i was Boruch Hashem matzliach as shliach tzibbur . Several years later we moved to Montreal, accepting a position as shliach tzibbur. To this day i still use his wonderful nusach and techniques… Read more »

you have much to be proud of
stay proud forever and ever
very nicely written .with prayers to be able to find nice words for (all) the living
His Kabolas Shabbos Breishis was the whole tishrei live-through, taking the whole tishrei with all the tishrei nigunim into one prayer as to carry on through the year. Even though there were not as many benches as on rosh hashona or yom kippur, it felt even more crowded, everyone wanted to hear that and sing together, this were trully unrepeatable and spiritual. My daughter asked, who will replace him for singing sheybono. I said, noone and at that moment tears started to fall by themselves because i realized it is true.

His neshama will gather eternal nachas from his wonderful family and grandchildren.
R’ Moishe had a very special relationship with the Rebbe, it was something of a heart to heart thing that only they knew what it was all about. I remember how much effort and how much practice he would put in every time he had to sing or daven in front of the Rebbe. Never would he dare to start singing in front of the Rebbe unprepared, even when he started the routine Shyibone by every farbrengen he would first hum it to himself many times and during the weekdays he would check the key with a note tester (something… Read more »
Barcuh Dayan Emes, and sympathy to Mrs. Teleshevsky, dear caretaker of so many Machon Chana ladies.
Amein!!! Very very well said!!
BDE, Feter Moshe was a legend, a devoted Chosid and an inspiration to hundreds and thousands of Chassidim, there is not one lubavitcher Chosid whose heart did not shake when he sang Sheyiboneh at the Rebbes farbrengen, or said the brochos for Menorah lighting together with Haneiros Halolu or davened at the Omud for Shabbos B’reishis… Feter Moshe, I’m sure you are now together with your Father Harav Hachosid Shada”r Reb Mordechei Dov singing Sheyiboneh in shomayim for the Rebbe once again with the same excitement, dedication and devotion, and surely this time your voice will storm the heavens and… Read more »
