Mrs. Miriam Zilbershtrom, a matriarch of a large Chabad family who spent her life dedicated to education and Mivtzoim, passed away on Wednesday, 18 Teves, 5780.
She was 90.
She was born on the 17th of Tammuz to her parents Rabbi Tuvia and Sheva Spiegel, from the respected families in Bnei Brak. Her father was close with the “Chazon Ish” Rabbi Avraham Yeshayohu Karelitz, the city’s Rabbi Yaakov Landa and the posek Rabbi Shmuel Wozner, all of blessed memory.
When her shidduch was proposed with Aharon Mordechai Zilbershtrom, the Rebbe Rayatz wrote to him that it was “a right thing to close” in a good time b’gashmius and ruchanius.
The wedding was scheduled for 13 Shvat 5710, but was postponed because of the passing of the Rebbe Rayatz. At the advice of the Rebbe, then called the Ramash, they waited until after the Shloshim to get married. The wedding was attended by Rabbis Landa, Wosner and Rabbi Yosef Shlomo Kahaneman, Rosh Yeshiva of the Ponevezh.
Living in Jerusalem, Mrs. Zilbershtrom dedicated her life to raising their 7 children and being active in the Rebbe’s Mivtzoim on a regular basis. She would give out Shabbos candles to women and was an example of modesty, yiras shamayim and humility.
She also stood by her husband as he founded and helped run the Reshet Oholei Yosef Yitzchok Lubavitch, Chabad’s network of kindergartens and schools across Israel.
Her grandchildren remember her weekly custom of learning the newly released sicha of the Rebbe on the Parsha with her husband every Shabbos day.
She is survived by her children, Mrs. Esther Schochet – Toronto, Rabbi Binyamin Nachum Zilbershtrom – Jerusalem, Rabbi Tuvia Zilbershtrom – Jerusalem, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Zilbershtrom – Lod, Rabbi Chanoch Henoch Zilbershtrom – Kfar Chabad, Rabbi Dovid Zilbershtrom – Kfar Chabad, and Mrs. Chana Ginsburg – Haifa; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The levaya will take place today from Shamgar funeral home in Jerusalem with burial in Har Hazeisim.
Baruch Dayan Ha’emes.
