Mrs. Eva Efune, known lovingly as “Bubby” by all members of the Chabad of Scottsdale community in Arizona, passed away on Shabbos, 8 Tishrei, 5784.
She was 92.
She is survived by her three sons, Shliach Pesach Efune of Brighton, England, and Chabad supporters Hilton Efune of Scottsdale, Arizona and Charles Efune of Atlanta, Georgia.
Eva was born in Vienna, Austria in 1931. She survived the Holocaust after escaping through the Alps with her family and hiding in southern France, first posing as a Catholic girl in a nunnery and later hiding in an attic with her parents.
She married Nate Efune in 1953 and lived in South Africa, until moving to Phoenix in 1997.
Among her grandchildren is the founder of Ohr Chabad Rabbi Mendy Efune, Honorary Chairman of The Algemeiner and publisher of The New York Sun Dovid Efune, and Devori Nussbaum, host of the popular podcast “Chassidus, through the eyes of a psychotherapist.”
