Mrs. Esther (Aliska) Adamek, a force of Yiddishkeit in Sydney, Australia, and the beloved matriarch and rock of her large family, passed away on Monday, 29 Shevat, 5783.
She was 97.
Esther was a survivor of the Auschwitz death camp where she saw her parents murdered. Miraculously, Esther emerged from those horrific years with her faith intact and with a strong will to rebuild and embrace her Jewish life.
Born into a very religious family in Bunkovce, Czechoslovakia, Esther was determined to bring up her children in the ways of her home, ensuring they attended a religious Jewish Day School in Sydney, Australia where she had migrated and built a proud Jewish family.
Esther was zoche to be the inspiration and guiding light to generations steeped in her ways – her mesiras nefesh bore the fruits of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren following in her footsteps of a life lived with purpose, determination and Jewish will.
Esther is survived by her children Diana Loebenstein and Ari Leuchter and their spouses, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, among them shluchim in places around the world.
The Levayeh will take place on Tuesday, first day of Rosh Chodesh Adar at the Sydney Chevrah Kadisha.
Diana and Ari will be sitting shivah at 83 Ocean Street, Bondi, Sydney.
