Mrs. Chaya Zelda (Clara) Kramer, a pillar of the Lubavitch community in Montreal and wife of Rabbi Leib Kramer OBM, passed away on Yom Kippur, 5779.
She was 89.
Clara was born in 1929 to Eliyahu and Leiba Devorah Halperin, a couple who were Moser Nefesh for the Jewish education of their children in Montreal.
Even many years ago, they kept a Kosher and frum home, with their home being one of only 3 that built a Sukkah each Sukkos holiday in the entire Montreal.
In 1947 she married Rabbi Leib Kramer, the Director of Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch in Montreal, who had arrived in 1941 along with 8 other yeshiva bochurim from Tomchei Temimim in Otvotsk and later Shanghai.
Together they were pillars of the Montreal Jewish community, with Rabbi Kramer later becoming the director of the Bais Rivkah school in Montreal as well as founding the Pardas Chana Camp.
The Kramer’s home was open to all the bochurim of the Yeshiva, as well as people from all walks of life. Together, she and her husband impacted thousands of people in Montreal and beyond.
Mrs. Kramer was known for her warm, loving and gracious personality, and as someone who was very generous and giving to all she met.
Her husband passed away in 1999.
She is survived by her children, Rabbi Michel Kramer – Crown Heights, Mrs. Sara Gutnick – Melbourne, Australia, Rabbi Yosef Kramer – Teverya, Israel, Mrs. Esther Shneur – Montreal, Rabbi Shmuel Kramer – Montreal, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
The levaya will be at 3 pm Thursday, at Chesed Shel Emes in Montreal.
Shiva will be at 4706 Kent Avenue, Montreal.
Rabbi Michel Kramer, Mrs. Sara Gutnick and Rabbi Yosef Kramer will be sitting shiva on Erev Yom Tov at 620 Montgomery St. in Crown Heights (Sunday only).

Mrs Kramer was the finest example of caring and friendship. A true shluchah in what must have been over 70 years of communal endeavour. Always good for sage advice and a kind and gentle word for young and old alike to the end. She will be sorely missed and will be long remembered as an aishess chayil in every way.
Deepest sympathies to her family. You have wonderful memories to cherish and an inspiring legacy to comfort you.
