Mr. Yuda Backer, a lifetime resident of Crown Heights and a prominent philanthropist, passed away early Thursday morning, 22 Nissan 5780.
He was 67.
Mr. Backer was a successful businessman who was a supporter of many Jewish and Chabad causes.
He is survived by his wife Ruthe Backer and by his son Shmuli (Miami Beach) and his son Shimmy (Crown Heights) and grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings Mrs. Sarah Fischman (Lawrence), Mrs. Riva Denburg (Miami Beach), Mrs. Kayla Kendall (Montreal) and Mrs. Rochel Chazanow (Los Angeles).
The levaya will take place tomorrow, Friday, passing by 770 at 1:15 pm and then on to Montefiore Cemetery.

Few people know the extent of Mr. Backer tzedaka. He not only helped financially. He got involved personally. Some times as discreet as possible.

Although I only saw Reb Yudel very infrequently in recent years, we are very saddened at this news. Our families go back for decades. We grew up together and spent many summers together in the Catskills. His late mother Anya o”h and mine were best friends. Yihei zichroi boruch!
