Reb Benzion Lewis, a beloved teacher and Bar Mitzvah tutor from Manchester, UK, passed away suddenly on Motzei Shabbos, 17 Kislev, 5780.
A beloved teacher and Bar Mitzvah tutor, Mr. Lewis was known throughout the Lubavitch and wider Jewish communities of North and South Manchester for his storytelling, his affable smile and his warm acceptance.
There are hundreds, if not more, who owe their knowledge of Torah and Yiddishkeit to him whether through being his students at Bury and Whitefield Jewish Primary School, or the Hale cheder, because he prepared them for their Bar Mitzvah, or from the stories he told at N’shei events, or B’nos Chabad Melava Malkas, or because they felt comfortable to come and sit at his Shabbos table, or speak to him in shul.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gita Lewis and his children, Raisel Golomb-London, UK, Rabbi Dovid Yaakov Lewis-Bowdon, UK, Etty Seewald, Crown Heights, Nissen Lewis-Manchester, UK, Channi Lewis-Manchester, UK, grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
