Following Canadian government directives requiring a 2-week closure of all educational facilities beginning Monday, Chabad schools in Montreal have closed until further notice due to the spread of the coronavirus.
In a letter to parents, Beth Rivkah academy of Montreal informed parents that based on the government requirement and in collaboration with rabbonim and health care professionals, Beth Rivkah Academy, CPE Beth Rivkah and Garderie Maison Chana will be closed as of Monday, March 16, 2020.
“This is a preventative measure to stem the spread of the COVID-19 virus within the community,” they said.
To minimize contact between people, all extra-curricular activities, parties and events were canceled as well.
Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch Boys School of Montreal also informed parents that the “Yeshiva will be closed until further notice based on the directives released by the provincial government earlier today.”
“There is no reason to panic or worry but we must take action to keep the vulnerable members of our community safe,” they said.
Both boys and girls schools said they are working to set up a temporary system so that classes can continue by web conference, they said.
